It refers to technique of injecting a single sperm into the egg in the ivf laboratory. In icsi the embyrologist can select sperms based on appearance and motility.
The other aspect of treatment cycle is identical for ivf as ovarian stimulation, egg recovery, sperm sample and embryo replacement after ICSI.
Indications
1. Unexplained infertility.
2. Low sperm count, poor morphology, poor motility.
3. Advanced maternal age.
4. Low oocyte yield in ovarian stimulation.
5. Any indications for PGT.
6. Sperms obtained by tesa.
Fertilization can be observed after 16 to 18 hours as in ivf. Rest of the procedures remain same as IVF.
